CALL FOR SPONSORS

Hello Morgan Alumni, coleman a. jordan [ebo], Assistant Professor and Morgan State University’s School of Architecture + Planning have been invited to design and build a pavilion at the Venice Architecture Biennale 2023, for the European Cultural Centre’s Time Space Existence theme. The pavilion entitled, RECALL & RESPONSE is inspired by the djembe, the West African talking drum. The drum has historically been the accessible communicating instrument from West Africa, Congo Square in New Orleans, the atabaqués drum in Brazil, the steel drum in the Caribbean, to the drumline drummers at our HBCUs. Our cultural QR code is the drum, the voice, OUR VOICE.
The PERFORMANCE (TBA: Biennale Festival Mid-June)
The pavilion will become a stage for performance during the opening and closing events. We will have drummers from Morgan’s band to perform a procession to the pavilion. They will march to stand at the end points of the Adinkra and Nsibidi ground symbols that represent a gathering place for the seven HBCUs that have architecture programs and all Africans around the world to say that we are here at the
Venice Architecture Biennale.
